The 4TH of July Parade at Brunswick Plantation and Golf Resort was a real hit once again this year! Thanks to Jeanette Meckling and her friends, Joyce Hayden and Beth Coffey for organizing it!
Jeanette Meckling was kind enough to give me time to talk with her about how she became the parade chair and why she loves living at Brunswick Plantation. Jeanette said she decided to get personally involved when the parade did not happen a few years ago. It is her third year as parade chairperson. Jeanette says she loves doing it! She particularly happy that everyone participates in some way! It is a great community event and time to share the holiday with friends and neighbors!
It has grown every year! This year the Sheriff’s EMS was the Honor Guard. Brunswick Plantation was one of three parades for them this 4th of July! The Marine Corps has been the Honor Guard in past years, and many of the group were there as part of the large parade audience this year. Kudos to both groups for their support!
The Fire Department also participated in the 2013 BP parade along with:
- · The Elks
- · Knights of Columbus
- · Lots of decorated golf carts
- · Decorated Cars…Old & New
- · Kids on bicycles
Jeanette Meckling and her husband, Phil, also host the “After Party” at their home on Beauvoir Drive. It has grown, also, from people waving flags on the porch to the front yard, and now onto the lawn! This year there were over 200 people at the parade “After Party”! Some folks brought goodies to share. BP friends and neighbors gathered to eat, chat, and celebrate our Independence Day together! Jeanette say that two years ago she had pony rides for kids, and this year there was face painting for the grandchildren! And the Fun continues for all ages!
The Meckling’s also host an evening barbecue for friends and neighbors, by invitation only, for this event. There are already 160 for the barbecue, which is about all they can accommodate for a dinner event. Jeanette and Phil provide the hamburger and hot dogs with drinks that include beer, of course! Prost! Friends provide the tent and other foods that go with a barbecue! Yum, Yum! That sounds like classic 4th of July Holiday Fare and Fun!
I asked Jeanette how she and Phil decided to build their home at Brunswick Plantation and Golf Resort. She said they began coming to this area years ago when Brunswick Plantation was so new that much of it was yet to be built…like the clubhouse. They actually watched Brunswick Plantation grow through their various visits. They wanted to eventually move “South” from their home in New Jersey. They stayed a variety of places in this area and originally came to Brunswick Plantation to visit a friend from New Jersey who was living here. After checking out many communities from various trips to this area, they bought a lot at BP in 1998. They built their lovely home with the picturesque golf course view in 2003.
They are very happy here and love the community. Though the beauty of Brunswick Plantation is lovely, Jeanette said the main thing that attracted them to build here was the people! She said their friendliness was so genuine and welcoming that they immediately felt right at home! They still feel that way about their friends and neighbors here today! People are from everywhere, open and ready to make new friends! They did not feel the same friendliness in some of the other communities they visited. I hear that from everyone I talk to who moved here. The People of BP was what drew them to live here and be a part of this community! The success of the 4th of July parade illustrates that friendly, inclusive atmosphere!
I think this is also a tribute to developer, Mason Anderson’s vision for Brunswick Plantation. One of his priorities was for this community to exhibit “Southern Hospitality”. He told the people who worked here from the beginning that if they saw someone, whether they knew them or not, to greet them and if they were not close enough to speak, to wave to them. That is one thing Jeanette mentioned to me that impressed her and is standard behavior for this community!
Actually, that is what influenced me to decide to live here when I retired from teaching in Germany. I had originally bought my golf condo for summer visits and as an investment. However, everyone was so friendly and welcoming when I stayed at my condo, I decided that this is where I wanted to call home! Brunswick Plantation is home to a lot of happy folks!
Another draw to Brunswick Plantation is, of course, the great golf and the near-by beaches. For instance, Jeanette told me that her husband loves to play golf here and plays nearly every day. She likes golf but also enjoys the beach. Several beaches are minutes away…A Beach Babe’s Dream! So, great golf and beautiful beaches in a friendly and welcoming community! What a perfect package! We’d love to hear how you chose or may be considering Brunswick Plantation as your home! Everyone at Brunswick Plantation and Golf Resort wishes you and yours more summer fun!
