Chef Eric’s “Art Culinaire” History
Eric Masson’s first degree in culinary school was in Brent, France. He later attended another culinary school in Noirmoutiers. After completing two degrees, he decided to leave for England in 1989 to gain experience and brush up on his English. He worked at the Criterion Brasserie in Piccadilly Circus in London for a year.
Eric then moved to Paris where he worked for restaurants for two years. In his desire to learn more about managing a restaurant and to have an extensive training on wine, Eric attended the Ferrandi Culinary School in Paris. (This school has trained many great chefs who have successfully opened restaurants all over the world!) Then Eric served time in the French Army, where he was the Colonel’s private chef and catered parties from 15 – 400. Eric later went to Paris and was the chef/manager of Le Quincampe.
While working in Paris, Eric met is wife Kimberlee in September 1997. Kim Hoffer, originally from Amsterdam, NY was traveling with her girlfriend touring Europe. Kim & Eric met at a bar called the “Wait & See” and rendezvoused the very next day under the Eiffel Tower…How Romantic!
They fell in love and after corresponding over the ocean for more than six months, Eric kissed his family Good-bye and crossed the ocean to be with his Love! They married and eventually became a family of four with two children…Jolee and Remy.
Eric and Kim, both having an entrepreneurial spirit, opened a restaurant in Amsterdam, NY. They named it Ferrandi’s after the culinary school Eric had attended in Paris. Ferrandi’s had the title of “Best French Restaurant in the Capital Region” for 2000 & 2001!
The couple had other successful restaurants in NY. Eric wanted to relocate down south near the ocean. The Massons took some vacation in Myrtle Beach and discovered “The Brentwood”. They immediately Fell in Love with the 1910 Victorian style house and took over the restaurant business in August 2007. “The Brentwood” was named the “Best French” of the Grand Strand in 2009, 2010, and 2011.
Brentwood Restaurant History and Haunting
This beautiful Victorian home was built in 1910 for Clarence and Essie Bessent-McCorsley. They raised four lovely children there. After Clarence passed away in the late 1940’s, Essie often rented rooms to fishermen visiting Little River..$1 Per Night & 50 Cents extra for a hearty breakfast! The building was moved to its present location sometime in the 60-70’s from across Route 17. Grandma Mary’s started serving the public with good home cooking.
Closed sometime in the 80’s, the Victorian house was purchased and restored to it’s natural beauty. The Stublick brothers from Brentwood, Long Island created a menu to please a variety of tastes and named their beautiful Victorian building”The Brentwood”!
Stories of “Haunting” at the Brentwood were well known. Eric Masson, having experienced some of these unexplained activities at night in the house, had the P.I.T. Crew from North Myrtle Beach do an investigation on January 30, 2010. The night started like every other for the team with a detailed tour of the facility by the owners describing their experiences and showing the “Hot Spots” they felt housed the most activity. Following the tour and interview, the team geared up & set up cameras, audio recorders, and various other pieces of equipment frequently used in paranormal research. The investigation began at midnight. Various unexplained activity occurred throughout the night that convinced them that there is definitely some activity going on within the Brentwood walls. They encountered many unexplained events the night and believe there is more than one entity in the house. The monsterVisionTV episode The Haunting of Brentwood Wine Bistro shows you these claims first hand through the eyes of the researchers led by head investigator, Stephen Lancaster.
The Brentwood Wine Bistro is definitely worth a visit for a delectable taste treat! This charming and interesting restaurant is appealing in so many ways. Great Food and Fine Wines with excellent service makes for a wonderful evening…A Haunting story to be told! Enjoy!
There is so much happening this spring in and around Brunswick Plantation and Golf Resort! Hopefully this lengthy blog will have some new ideas & places for you to explore! Come on Down and enjoy a Better Way of Life!
