Golf News From the Pro 11.13 at Brunswick Plantation

Golf News from the Pro picHello to All,

Welcome to Golf News From the Pro 11.13.  November is here and the first thing I think of is the holiday season.  Fall has arrived and our course is in superb condition.  As a reminder when driving carts in low areas please use caution.  Without winter rye grass water has no place to be absorbed, so low areas may not look wet but will leave a bad tire rut if driven over.

The NGA Professional tour played here at Brunswick Plantation Golf & Resort November 12, 13, 14.  Many of these youngsters are the future of the PGA tour.   I hope you had a chance to come out and watch them play.

We have fall outerwear that just arrived in our pro-shop.  Please come and check out the selections.  Items like men’s and women’s full zip fleece jackets, windbreakers, sleeveless and more.  The Pro-shop staff would like to wish all Members and property owners have a great golfing month.

Rob Vaughan and his golf course maintenance staff have worked very hard to keep our facility in excellent shape this season.  As we come into the winter months Rob will be initiating our winter dye program.  He and his staff have been testing and refining for several years now.  I expect our first application to be applied late December.

Something to Ponder

Since we have implemented the dye program golfers are not asked to stay on cart paths for the first two to three weeks in October.  Your green complexes are much drier because we don’t have to water the grass overnight.  You are getting at least ten to twenty yards of roll on our firm and fast fairways!  Your greens are much smoother and faster.

Greens for the Winter

We will be going to a three hole location on each green complex starting December 1.  Myself and Rob will pick these areas and make them as fair as we can.  Each green will have three cups, and the ones not being used will have a rubber cover over them and will not interfere with your putting.  This method will help rob with old cup growth which we do not get in the winter.  Our goal is to reduce the number of cup locations and this method will do that.

Tee-time Schedule Change

A reminder to all Members and property owners that our tee schedule changes December 1, 2013.  The Pro Shop will open at 8 am and close at 5 pm.  Our first starting time will be 8:50 am.  The later start helps with cold mornings in case of frost.

Thank you,
