The GRAND STRAND is the large stretch of beaches here on the East Coast stretching from the Brunswick Isles of North Carolina (NEAR BRUNSWICK PLANTATION) to Georgetown SC. It is 60 miles along an uninterrupted arc of beach land. Blessed with wonderful weather, we hope you are here and can enjoy doing your Christmas shopping this holiday season in an area chock-full of delightful shops and restaurants.
The best part: there is delicious dining and fun activities in every nook and corner of our shopping areas.
THE HAMMOCK SHOPS, US 17 S, Pawleys Island SC. Home to the original ROPE HAMMOCK, this group of upscale shops fairly sparkles at Christmastime. There are over 20 charming specialty shops and restaurants in a historic park-like setting clustered beneath moss-draped oaks—surrounded by beautiful gardens of azaleas and camellias. The ROPE HAMMOCK was designed by Capt. Joshua John Ward, and still delights on a hot summer day. Another fun shop is: THE FRECKLED FROG, filled with children’s books, family games, educational games, and toys. Enjoy a day of shopping and relaxing in the Low Country of SC. Make a “road trip” and include lunch.
THE WACKY RABBIT, 7702 N Kings Hwy, Myrtle Beach. This is home to beautiful yet functional gifts and home décor. They gift-wrap and ship. Just a few of the items available include dolls, pillows, accessories, pieces for entertaining, and much more. This is a “destination shop” for locals and visitors. They offer a warm and friendly shopping experience.
BASS PRO SHOPS, Myrtle Beach Mall, 10177 N Kings Hwy, Myrtle Beach. This is the place for all things “outdoor.” Think: fishing, hunting, shooting, boating, camping, clothing, shoes and boots, and holiday gifts with a woodsy feel. How about getting a gift card for your son or grandson for that special fishing reel.
THE MARKET COMMON, 4017 Deville St, Myrtle Beach. (Tree lighting 11.23.12 6-7 PM at Valor Park). This shopping area is of the highest caliber in a village-like setting located on land that was the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base. A stroll through “the village” finds lush plantings, rocking chairs and benches, and shimmering fountains. This area features more than 60 local and national retail stores, such as Williams-Sonoma, Banana Republic, Victoria’s Secret, Coldwater Creek, Chico’s, Pottery Barn, Barnes and Noble, Tommy Bahama, and much more. Delightful restaurants highlight each area, such as P. F. Chang’s and Gordon Biersch.
WORLD MARKET, 1144 Seaboard St, Myrtle Beach. In business over 50 years, WORLD MARKET started with ships from Asia unloading rattan furniture at Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco and selling it right off the dock. It is their passion now to discover extraordinary finds from all over the world. At Christmas, the Holiday Shop comes alive with a fantastic INTERNATIONAL FOODS section. THE 5-STAR ITEM HERE IS NYAKERS GINGERSNAPS in a bright red tin. It is filled with melt-in-your-mouth cookies. I buy several cans each year for gifts—people look forward to them. From Balinese baskets to pottery from Portugal—this is a treasure trove of gift ideas. The Christmas decorations are exquisite.
BROADWAY AT THE BEACH, 1325 Celebrity Circle, Myrtle Beach. There are more than 350 retail shops, restaurants, clubs, and attractions at this outdoor extravaganza. The Christmas lights are spectacular. Come to shop, come for fun!
COASTAL GRAND MALL, 2000 Coastal Grand Circle, Myrtle Beach. This is the largest traditional indoor mall in the area with more than 120 stores and restaurants. Dillards, Belks, Sears, and JC Penny anchor the mall. Here you will find popular chains such as Books-A-Million. Wear your walking shoes.
Just for the Christmas season, Young Plantation Pecans has a booth in the mall selling all their yummy pecan products, including pecan pie. My favorite Mexican restaurant, Abuelo’s, is just behind Dillards. Also in that same area are several good furniture stores, such as Ethan Allen and La-Z-Boy. Mall Gift Cards are available.
TANGER OUTLETS-2 LOCATIONS, Hwy 17, Hwy 501, Myrtle Beach. If you are an “outlet shopper,” you will be in heaven in Myrtle Beach. The parking lots are always full because there are bargains to be had. There are coupons and special offers available at nearly every store for the holidays.
BAREFOOT LANDING, 4898 Hwy 17 S, North Myrtle Beach. House of Blues, Alligator Adventure, Christmas Mouse, and another 100 shops, restaurants, and attractions await you. Gift cards would be great from here. Located on a lake and the intracoastal waterway, the night lighting is not to be missed. This is the place for relaxed shopping and strolling. Don’t miss the Barefoot Princess boat on the waterway dressed for Christmas.
MYRTLE BEACH MALL, 10177 N Kings Hwy, Myrtle Beach. EASY RADIO is holding its 10th Annual Holiday Baking Contest at this mall on November 26 at 5:00 pm. The Grand Prize is a $1,000 Shopping Spree. There are more than 60 stores featured at this traditional mall anchored by Belks. The mall is nicely decorated and has a “Picture with Santa” booth.
KITCHEN CAPERS, 500 N Kings Hwy #101, Myrtle Beach. The owners of KITCHEN CAPERS want you to discover something new and inspiring each time you visit. You will find the tools you need for home cooking and stylish entertaining. They offer the latest ideas for the table, kitchen, and home in dinnerware, table linens, cookware, and home gift ideas. They provide UPS shipping, gift wrapping, and bridal registry.
BUT I HAVE SAVED THE BEST FOR LAST—WHY NOT SHOP RIGHT HERE AT BRUNSWICK PLANTATION. Go to the Pro Shop and you will find great buys in golf shirts and hats, clubs, balls, and all the accessories needed for that next round of golf. A Gift Certificate for a round of golf would be a nice treat or for lessons with our Pro, Shawn Hicken. A Gift Certificate for a “Stay and Play” at Brunswick Villas would be loved by anyone.
For a Brunswick Plantation keepsake, purchase “A Taste of Brunswick Plantation,” prepared by the Brunswick Plantation Ladies Golf Association. They are still available at the Facilitators Office, Brunswick House, here on Brunswick Plantation
