The HIGH shopping season is almost upon us, so I plan to give you some shopping tips in two parts:  this week, “closer to home” here in Brunswick County NC, next week, The Grand Strand.  There is nothing like the small shops and boutiques for truly unique gifts.  Within a few miles of Brunswick Plantation there is shopping for every budget.

If you come down on our great DISCOVERY VISIT PACKAGE, you can combine Christmas shopping with a chance to see all the great homes, townhomes, condominiums, and homesites available.  (It is only $120 for three nights—some restrictions.)  Check out all the Multiple Listing Service (MLS) entries at www.BrunswickPlantation.com, click on Real Estate, click on MLS.  Everything for sale here is listed.

Calabash NC – 3 miles from Brunswick Plantation

SUNSET RIVER MARKETPLACE,  10283 Beach Dr SW.  “Wild North Carolina Through the Artist’s Eyes,” a Wildlife Art Society Exhibition, Nov 21-Jan 5, free.  The Marketplace showcases Carolina artists only .  They have oils, acrylics, watercolors, stained glass, photography, turned wood, artisan-crafted jewelry, metalworks, woven fiber art, and much more.  They are open Mondays through Saturdays 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

CALLAHAN’S OF CALABASH, 9973 Beach Dr SW, encompassing 35,000 sq. ft. of goodies.  Here is just a sampling of what’s available:

St. Nick Nack’s Christmas Shop—this is the best Christmas shop on the East Coast.  The displays will amaze you.  They carry Christopher Radko, Department 56, Glory Haus, Snowbabies, and many other brand name over-the-top Christmas ornaments, trees, and ribbons.

Fudge and More—There are ten favors of homemade fudge to die for.  Especially try the vanilla/pecan, my favorite.  This section also has cookbooks, gourmet seasonings, mixes, and homemade preserves.

Jewelry Boutique—Your eyes will glow in the reflection of the wonderful gifts in this Boutique.  They carry a full line of Vera Bradley goods, Liquid Metal, Spartina, Seaglass, and much more.

And have lunch or dinner at The Boundry House, located just to the rear of the main building—great food in a great atmosphere.

Sunset Beach  – 6 miles from Brunswick Plantation

ISLAND BREEZE, 101 shoreline Dr.  Clarice Holden and the Island Breeze girls will take you on a Fashion Boutique Adventure, with enchanting clothing, shoes, and accessories.  From the moment you enter the door you will be greeted with Southern Hospitality and caring customer service.  Just a sampling of what awaits you:  Pandora and Brighton Jewelry and Accessories, cruise clothing, special occasion clothing, and fun party wear, along with resort casual separates.

THE BLUE HERON, 1780-10A Chandlers Lane.  Jo Ann Johnston, owner of The Blue Heron says her love for “handmade in America” led her to become a showcase for artists and artisans from across America and Canada.  Stop in her shop and see one of the best collections of fine arts and crafts in the USA.

PELICAN BOOKSTORE, 1780 Chandlers Lane.  If you miss the small, intimate bookstores of yesteryear, then look no further than The Pelican Bookstore.  This is a place where employees have actually read the books, not just the reviews.  They carry both new and used books.  They sell hard backs, trade and mass market paperbacks, children’s books, LOCAL AUTHORS, jigsaw puzzles, and greeting cards.  You could finish your Christmas shopping right here.

Keep watching—more fun shopping next week.
